Strawberries get a splash of color

With a paintbrush in one hand and the wooden canvas sitting on the table, Leonard Elementary School students were ready to give each piece of wood a splash of color.
More exact – a splash of red, green and black as they made each one look like a strawberry.
They will be displayed during the 30 Days of Strawberries, beginning June 18 and ending July 18, the day of the annual Strawberry Festival in Leonard.
The strawberries will be displayed at businesses in the Village of Leonard and Addison Township that bought a spot on a advertising square on a special calendar as part of an effort to promote local business.
Each berry was crafted by Distinctive Design, located at 4495 Forest St. in downtown Leonard.
