Two recent high-profile criminal cases from Springfield Township are making their way slowly through the court process, with both scheduled for pre-trial examinations on Dec. 9.
Charges against David N. Benton, 44, include two counts of criminal sexual conduct-second degree (contact with children under 13), eight counts of possession of child sexually-abusive material, eight counts of using a computer to commit a crime and one count of possession of marijuana.
Benton was still being held in the Oakland County Jail last week, with bond set at a full $400,000, according to assistant prosecutor Hala Jarbou.
He was arrested after a woman employed to clean Benton’s home came across evidence of pornography and notified authorities.
Jarbou declined to comment on the case until after the preliminary exam.
Brian L. Wylie, 26, was charged with two counts of larceny from an automobile and one charge of resisting and obstructing a peace officer after a Nov. 6 incident at the scene of a reported home invasion.
While being questioned, Wylie allegedly disobeyed deputies? orders not to smoke inside a patrol car. When deputies attempted to remove him from the vehicle, Wylie became combative, reports said. Two deputies used their Taser weapons to subdue him, with both darts hitting him in the head.
The larceny charges stemmed from Wylie’s alleged theft of construction equipment.
Assistant prosecutor Gina Schmidt said Wylie was also still incarcerated last week with a full bond of $30,000.
Both preliminary exams are scheduled in the courtroom of 52-2 District Judge Michael Batchik.
