Varsity volleyball head Coach Kristi McDevitt and her volleyball squad have a lot of confidence heading into district play as they wrapped up their season by winning the Fenton Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 29.
‘We showed this weekend we are a force,? McDevitt said.
The Wildcats earned the third seed in the knockout portion of the invite after defeating Pinconning, Garden City, Pickney and splitting with Linden and Bay City John Glen.
Oxford then toppled second seed Mason in the semi-finals and defeated top overall seed Flint Carman-Ainsworth in the finals.
For the tournament, sophomore Darien Bandel led the Wildcats with 46 kills and 19 blocks. Senior captain Lindsey Leppek finished with 37 kills and 11 blocks, while fellow senior captain Katie Bearse had 25 kills and junior Maddy Line had 20 kills.
Defensively, senior captain Olivia Krause had 76 digs and seven aces, while senior Maggie Rourke had 67 digs and five aces.
The Wildcats finished the season with a 31-24-3 record.
Oxford looked to avenge earlier losses to Lake Orion when they square off against the Dragons in the opening round of district play on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
‘Our goal Tuesday night is to go point-for-point and keep the game in check with our tough defense while displaying our offensive power at the net,? McDevitt said.
If the Wildcats slay the Dragons, they battle Rochester Adams on Thursday, Nov. 3. The winner of that match will face the winner of Rochester and Rochester Stoney Creek on Saturday, Nov. 5.
All district action takes place at Rochester High School, 180 S. Livernois, in Rochester Hills.
