Stephanie Marani and Gianna Locricchio jumped into the air and blocked West Bloomfield’s return.
The ball touched their hands, went back onto the Lady Lakers side and hit the gym floor.
Clarkston continued the momentum until Alexis Egler finished the third set 25-10, giving the girls their third win for the night.
They won the first set 25-3 and the second, 25-15.
“It’s senior night, so a good ending in terms of our season,” said Girls Volleyball Varsity Coach Kelly Avenall. “It is a boost for some kids that don’t get to play a lot to get out there. It gives them some confidence.”
Senior Allison Reis had 10 kills and Marani added five kills and seven blocks.
The girls beat Lake Orion earlier in the week on Oct. 19, taking them in three sets.
They won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-19, but the third game was closer.
The Lady Dragons gave Clarkston a fight keeping it point for point.
“I felt my girls this year are so confident,” said Avenall. “The past years, they would have been back on their heels a little bit. They never got nervous. They just hung in there.”
The Lady Wolves finally beat them, 30-28.
“I told the girls they were going to be competitive,” Avenall added. “I think my girls played up to it. They played us tough.”
Maddie Lightfoot had 20 digs, Marani seven kills and eight blocks, and Jessica Frakes had 10 kills and five blocks.
The two wins put the girls at 35-3-1 and 8-0 in the league.
They host the OAA Quad on Wednesday, to play for first place in the league.
“It’s going to be a good night,” said Avenall. “We beat Seaholm in the league, but they beat us a few weeks ago. It is still weighing on their minds.”
If the girls win their first game of the night against Farmington, they win the league.
“But we still want to beat Seaholm,” added Avenall.
The game begins at 5:30 p.m.
The girls play in their last tournament on Saturday at Andover High School.
Then, they head into their first round of district playoffs against Fenton on Monday.
“We played Fenton in our first game of the season. They have improved a lot. I saw them a few weeks ago,” said Avenall.
‘I think it would have been a good finals match for the two of us. They are one of the tougher teams in the district. We will have to prepare for them.”
Clarkston is hosting the district playoffs and they play at 5:30 p.m.
