RIDING FOR A GOOD CAUSE ? Shenanigans Farm on Oakwood Road in Addison Township hosted the first of three ‘barn shows? Sunday to raise money for Horses? Haven. Located in Howell, Horse’s Haven is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare and humane care of horses, ponies, donkeys and other large animals. Shenanigans? show featured riders competing in the equestrian discipline known as ‘Hunter/Jumper,? a style of riding in which horses are ridden English style and jump over a series of obstacles. This first show raised $104 for Horses? Haven. The next shows are April 9 and May 21. ‘We’re shooting for $500,? said Mary McKiernan (far right), owner of Shenanigans Farm. A total of 220 ladies attended the popular evening of elegance to view a variety of fashions from Talbots in Rochester. The event raised approximately $4,000 for the club’s scholarship fund to benefit graduating high school seniors in the Oxford area. Bernard and Edith Boisvert, formerly of Addison Township, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Saturday at Kalloway’s Restaurant and Pub surrounded by a room full of family and friends.
The couple was married in 1937 at St. James Catholic Church in Ferndale.
Bernard, 95, and Edith, 93, have led long and productive lives, touching many people along the way.
Early in their marriage, the couple lived in Traverse City.
There both worked at the Park Place Hotel ? Bernard as an auditor and Edith as a waitress.
The Boisverts moved to Utica in the early 1950s.
For a while, Bernard worked for both Chrysler and General Motors at the same time.
He quit Chrysler and stayed at the GM Tech Center in Warren until his retirement in the early 1970s.
The couple later lived in Addison for about 10 years on Army Rd. Their son, Mike Boisvert, has served as building official for Addison since 2005.
The Boisverts? happy union has produced six children, 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. The couple now resides in Grand Blanc.
Congratulations on 70 wonderful years together.

For the seventh year in a row, members of Oxford Boy Scout Troop 108 conducted a spring cleanup at St. Augustine’s House, the Lutheran monastery located on E. Drahner Rd. in Addison Township.
The boys trimmed branches and picked up brush around the monastery’s chapel and guest house, then raked the two-mile nature trail running through the scenic property.
‘The scouts accomplish in one day what would take the staff and guests months to do,? said Ernie Baker, spokesman for St. Augustine’s House.

The Village of Oxford Beautification Commission held its 16th Annual Awards Program Tuesday night. Six residential properties and three commercial properties were recognized for their aesthetic contributions toward beautifying the village’s overall appearance. Christmas came early to Clear Lake and Daniel Axford as the elementary schools played host to fun holiday activities Saturday morning.
Parents and kids got to eat a delicious family breakfast, visit with Santa Claus, shop for cool gifts and make eye-catching holiday decorations to adorn their homes.
A jolly good time was had by all and the parent volunteers at both schools should be commended for making possible such fun and memorable events.

U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers nominated Simon Baginski, left, son of Andrew and Felicia Baginski of Lake Orion, Tyler Boston, son of Gregory and Holly Boston of Clarkston, to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. Tyler, a graduate of Clarkston High School, and Simon, student at Notre Dame Preparatory School at Pontiac, were honored recently at a reception at the Impression Five Science Center in Lansing.
