Lady Cagers celebrated the last home game of the season last Thursday honoring parents and their lone senior player, Lindsay Reppuhn.
In return, the 5’5″ starter opened the game against Pontiac with a 3-pointer and led the team to a 39-29 victory.
“It was an awesome game,” said Reppuhn. “Everyone contributed and everyone played really well.”
“It was our fourth game in seven days and we really challenged the girls to play with a lot of toughness,” said Tim Wasilk, head coach for the Clarkston Girls Varsity Basketball team. “We had some spurts we played extremely well and shot some baskets and had nice plays. We played with a lot of toughness.”
Reppuhn and Delaney Kenny added five more points on the board before the Lady Phoenix scored their first basket.
Clarkston defense continued their strong attacks and held Pontiac’s Meisha Smith and Beonna House back as they led into halftime, 23-12.
“We focused mostly on them because Smith can get to the basket and House is their all-around scorer,” said Reppuhn. “We knew what to expect a little more. We knew they would come out hard because we already beat them by two points.”
Lady Wolves continued their dominance in the second half to get their second win against the Phoenix.
“We stuck with our game plan defensively and got the stops we needed to,” said Wasilk.
“Megan (Hastings) played really well,” Reppuhn added. “Anna (Manilla) played a great defense and everyone was cheering. It was so much fun to play.”
Reppuhn scored 15 points. Hastings contributed nine points and Kenny had eight.
The girls beat Southfield on Feb. 15, 56-22 to put their overall record 13-5 and 10-5 in OAA Red.
Sophomore Erin Davenport led the team with 27 points and seven steals. Manilla added ten point.
The girls play the last game of the regular season on Friday night as they head to Lake Orion, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the JV team.
“Orion played extremely tough last time,” said Wasilk. “We squeaked one out last time at home. Hopefully we can take care of business.”
“I just want to beat them more than last time,” add Reppuhn. “The team played well and kept them under 40 points but it is always a team we want to come out and beat. We didn’t come out as strong as we should have. We definitely want to come out strong this time and hand it to them.”
The Lady Wolves head into district playoffs next Wednesday where they will play the winner of the Brandon/Fenton game.
