The Lady Wolves held onto their undefeated record by outscoring Pontiac in the second half of their home game last Friday.
With the 55-46 win, the girls are now 13-0 overall.
Clarkston closed the first half of the game six points behind the Lady Phoenix. But after a pep talk from head coach Tim Wasilk the girls went on a 10-0 run to take the lead.
“I just told them to relax and keep doing what they have been all year,” he said. “The shots are going to fall and we needed to tighten things up defensively. They responded.”
Senior Megan Hastings added the talk helped to pump the team up for the next two quarters.
“We didn’t come out as tough as we wanted in the first half,” she said about the 27-21 score at the end of the half.
Senior Anna Manilla opened the half with a shot from the free throw line and senior Christina Jokisch added two baskets to put the Lady Wolves one point behind. Delaney Kenny brought the girls into the lead with two shots at the free throw line.
Pontiac caught up and tied the score 35-35 with 1:10 to go in the third quarter but Kenny and Erin Davenport sent them back behind scoring two points each.
“In the second half the girls were more focused and intense on the floor,” said Wasilk. “It was a big reason why we were doing better and our shots were falling.”
Jokisch led the team, scoring 18 points during the games and shot one 3-pointer.
“She did a nice job finishing tonight,” said Wasilk. “She did a nice job knocking down some free throws and rebounded pretty well. I was happy with her effort.”
Hastings and Kenny finished with ten points with a 3-pointer for Hastings. Anna Manilla scored seven points.
The girls head to Southfield-Lathrup on Thursday and are back home next Tuesday against Avondale.
