Nicole Janek and Alyssa Lucas faced a tough game of tennis against West Bloomfield Saturday, but beat them to win first place medals.
Janek defeated Taylor Pinchoff (6-2, 6-3) and Lucas defeated Samantha Pinchoff (6-0, 6-3) at the OAA league meet.
‘I was pleased that both Nicole and Alyssa defeated players who had beat them earlier this season,? said Clarkston coach Craig Judd. ‘Those types of win reflects their character as well as their team’s preparation and play.?
Kristina Lucas took home a medal for second place.
‘Although Kristina lost in her championship match, she played great tennis and took a set from her West Bloomfield rival,? said Judd. ‘Our number four singles, Blair McCarty, didn’t medal. She did play well and placed number three.?
Clarkston’s Girls Varsity team placed third, behind West Bloomfield and Bloomfield Hills Lahser.
The girls played Stoney Creek on Tuesday to prepare for regionals on Thursday.
‘There are great teams in our region, West Bloomfield, Rochester, and Troy. I have confidence this team is capable and determine to qualify for another trip to states,? said Judd.
Judd is so confident in Clarkston he has already placed room reservations for the state competition.
The team beat Rochester (5-3) and Utica Eisenhower (6-2) during the week.
On May 5, the girls lost to number one ranked Grosse Pointe South, 6-2.
Janek and Kristina Lucas won both of their sets against Grosse Pointe.
The team will play their regional competition at Rochester High School. It begins at 8 a.m.
