Secret Santa tops The Grinch

An Orion Township woman was the victim of a break-in but then got a secret Santa for Christmas.

Deputies were dispatched to the 1100 block of Dutmer Terrace at 11:37 p.m. Dec. 21 after a 37-year-old woman reported that she parked her vehicle in the driveway at approximately 10 p.m. on Dec. 19 and the vehicle was locked.

Upon returning to her vehicle the next day, she noticed that someone took her wallet, which had $120 in cash.

The vehicle was not damaged.

All evidence was collected and turned over to the detectives to continue the investigation.

The case was then turned over to an Orion Township secret Santa and the mother of four received gift cards to more than cover her loss, in addition to sharing Orion holiday spirit with deputies.

Woman arrested after refusing breathalyzer

A driver who went off the road near the Miller/Flint/Orion roundabout was arrested after refusing a breathalyzer.

Deputies were dispatched to Miller Road and Flint Street area for a vehicle in the ditch at 7:22 p.m. Dec. 22. They located the vehicle and ensured the driver was not injured.

Deputies interviewed the driver, a 57-year-old Oakland Twp. resident, who was unsteady on her feet and demonstrated signs she had been drinking.

The woman refused the preliminary breath test (PBT) and was arrested for Operating while Intoxicated and transported to the hospital for a blood draw.

The woman was transported to the Oakland County Jail without incident.

Man assaults caregiver

A 26-year-old man and his caregiver had a verbal argument and then the man struck his caregiver.

Deputies responded to a 911 call in the 2000 block of Elmhurst for an assault complaint at 8:05 p.m. Dec. 22.

They located both parties, making sure everyone was safe.

There were no injuries and the caregiver did not wish to pursue criminal charges. Deputies documented the case, collecting evidence and photographs.

Suspicious circumstances surround suspected breaking and entering

Deputies responded to the 2600 block of Pineridge Court at 12:30 a.m. Dec. 26 for a Breaking and Entering report.

An Orion Township man and his family left the house for dinner around 6 p.m. and returned home around 9 p.m.

When he returned home, he discovered the toilet had been used without flushing. Later in the evening he discovered his Louis Vuitton duffle bag was missing from the closet near the front door.

All the doors and windows were locked and there was no sign of forced entry. Detectives are continuing the investigation.

Man arrested for fighting with police

Lake Orion police went to a business on S. Broadway Street at 2:36 p.m. Christmas Eve after getting a report that a man was passed out near the business.

The police officer was assisting the 42-year-old Lake Orion man when the man began fighting with the Lake Orion police officer and Oakland County Sheriff’s Office deputy who responded to the call to police.

The man was arrested and issued a notice to appear in court for disorderly fighting.

The man, who was suspected of being heavily intoxicated, was then transported to the hospital with a high blood alcohol content.
