Embezzlement is not stage of grief
Deputies at the Orion Township Substation received a check fraud complaint at 5:47 p.m. Aug. 12.
An unknown suspect obtained checks from the complainant’s deceased relative and altered the check and signature. The unknown suspect then cashed the bogus checks at various locations exceeding $22,000.
There are no suspects and the investigation continues.
Reckless driver taken off the road
Deputies were dispatched to the area of Baldwin and Clarkston roads at 11:37 p.m. Aug. 13 for reports of a reckless driver.
Deputies located the vehicle in the area of Baldwin and Judah roads, stopping the vehicle in the Big Boy restaurant parking lot.
It was determined that the Clinton Township driver, 39, had been drinking. Deputies administered field sobriety tests, which the man failed to complete. A PBT (preliminary breath test) was administered, coming in at .139 percent BAC.
The man was placed under arrest and transported to McLaren hospital where he gave consent for a blood draw.
The man was then transported to Oakland County Jail without incident.
Troubled son assaults mom, runs away
Deputies responded to the 100 block of Casemer Road at 7:25 p.m. Aug. 15 for a domestic assault.
A mother reported that she attempted to stop her 14-year-old son from leaving the home. The son pushed his mother and then punched her three times in the face before leaving.
Deputies checked the area and were unable to locate the juvenile suspect.
A petition was completed and sent to the prosecutor’s office. The juvenile was entered into LEIN as a runaway.
The mother, 36, suffered a minor injury.
The investigation continues.
Doggone it, that hurts!
Deputies responded to the 400 block of Bristol Lane at 1:36 p.m. Aug. 16 for a dog bite.
A package delivery service employee, 31, stated she was attempting to deliver a package when she was attacked by a dog.
The woman had parked in the driveway of the home, exited her van and approached the front door. She saw two black dogs at the front storm door and felt safe because the dogs were inside the house.
The woman stated she was standing at the front door when one of the dogs pushed open the door and attacked her. The victim screamed for the homeowner, and the homeowner retrieved the dog.
Deputies saw puncture wounds consistent with bite wounds.
Orion Township firefighters transported the victim to McLaren-Oakland for further medical treatment.
Deputies took photographs of the dog, confirmed the dog was current with licensing and vaccinations, and contacted Animal Control.
Animal Control arrived and quarantined the dog inside the home for 10 days.
The incident was turned over to Oakland County Animal Control.
Don’t try to fence this driver in
Deputies responded to Pine Tree and Clarkston roads at 11:14 a.m. Aug. 17 for a report of damaged property after a passerby reported there were several damaged mailboxes on Pine Tree at Clarkston Road.
Responding deputies observed approximately eight damaged mailboxes and a fence that was knocked over, which appeared to be damaged by a vehicle.
Deputies canvassed the area and interviewed citizens. They talked to property owners, who did not report anything out of the ordinary through the night.
This incident is under investigation.
Loss Prevention at Kohl’s is not messing around with repeat offender
Deputies responded to Kohl’s, 4872 Baldwin Road, at 3:49 p.m. Aug. 17 for a retail fraud in progress.
Deputies detained a man, 58, who matched the descripting of the suspect called in and being followed by store security.
Loss Prevention had witnessed the suspect on two separate occasions conceal merchandise prior to the checkout and then exit the store.
A computer LEIN check revealed the man had an outstanding arrest bench warrant for FOC (Friend of the Court) out of the 6th Circuit Court.
The man was placed under arrest and lodged at the Oakland County Jail on his warrant.
Flee! — then get more tickets
Deputies were dispatched to the area of S. Lapeer & E. Scripps roads at 1:32 a.m. Aug. 18 for a hit and run PDA (property damage accident).
When deputies arrived, they were notified that the suspect’s vehicle fled the scene and was last seen going northbound on Lapeer Road.
Deputies searched and located the vehicle, driver and passenger in a parking lot in the 1000 block of Lapeer Road. Both were outside the vehicle walking around it. Damage to the vehicle was evident.
The Holt, MI driver, 29, was issued citations for failure to stop and identify after an accident, no auto insurance and refusal of a PBT.

Driver’s license is not a choice
An officer on patrol observed a traffic violation on S. Broadway Street near Front Street at 7:36 p.m. Aug. 5.
The Independence Township driver, 38, admitted to the officer that his license was suspended and that it has been suspended for several years.
The man was arrested; the vehicle was impounded.
Some people learn the hard way; woman gets two tickets, same day
An officer was dispatched to a business on S. Broadway Street (M-24) at 12:35 p.m. Aug. 7 after the property manager called to have a woman removed who has been banned from the property for causing problems.
The woman was there again and refusing to leave.
The woman gave a false name and birthdate to the officer. After confirming the information was false, the officer spoke with her again and she reluctantly provided correct information.
The woman was ticketed for trespassing and providing false information to an officer.
She was also removed from the property.
A few hours later, she returned to the property, refused to leave and was ticketed for trespassing a second time.
Runaway boy returned home after an evening out on the town
The LOPD received information at 8:23 p.m. Aug. 11 that a 15-year-old Orion Township runaway had been spotted in numerous area locations.
After receiving information on a possible location, an officer found the boy.
The teen was transported home to the custody of his parent.

Somebody clue the man in on the meaning of suspended license
An officer on patrol at 10:28 p.m. Aug. 15 observed a vehicle run a red light on N. Park (M-24) at W. Flint Street while traveling 53 mph in a 35 mph zone.
The Lapeer driver, 55, was found to be driving on a suspended license and had five previous convictions for driving on a suspended license.
The man was arrested and his vehicle impounded.
Wallet gets returned to owner
A good Samaritan fund a man’s wallet near Flint and Lapeer streets and turned it over to the LOPD at 7:20 a.m. Aug. 18. The wallet contained cash and checks.
The LOPD located the owner and returned his property, intact.
