Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies had to talk a man out of ending his life following an alleged domestic assault Jan. 8.
At approximately 11:33 a.m., Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies from Oxford Township responded to a report of domestic assault with injury in the 500 block of Worthington inside the Parkhurst Estates mobile home community. The victim, a 51-year-old female Oxford resident, was allegedly assaulted by her live-in tenant, Larry Dean Jones, 47, of Oxford, who was upset over an eviction notice.
Jones allegedly struck the victim in the face with a dumbbell, causing bruising to her right eye area, according to the sheriff’s report.
The report stated he also damaged personal items within the woman’s residence before fleeing the scene with a loaded handgun.
The victim was treated and released from POH Medical Center in Pontiac.
According to the sheriff’s report, Jones fled to his 33-year-old nephew’s residence on Athlone in Oxford Twp. The nephew called 9-1-1 after observing Jones walk to the door.
Jones did not gain access to the home, and when deputies arrived, Jones was on the front lawn with a handgun pointed at his throat, according to the report. The sheriff’s Special Response Team responded to the scene. After several hours, deputies were able to convince Jones to place the gun on the lawn. They then took him into custody without further incident.
Oxford firefighters treated Jones at the scene. He had suffered minor injuries.
Deputies recovered the handgun and lodged Jones in Oakland County Jail.
Jones was arraigned at the 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills on one felony count of assault with a dangerous weapon in front of Magistrate Melinda Balian.
Bond was set at 10 percent of $25,000.
