The girls varsity tennis team placed in the top eight teams at the state final in Midland.
The girls have placed in the top eight teams for the last four years.
This year 21 teams competed at the finals last Friday and Saturday.
Clarkston took eighth place after scoring ten points.
Grosse Point South, Ann Arbor Pioneer and West Bloomfield took the top three places during the weekend.
‘The competition was exceptionally good this year,? said Clarkston coach Craig Judd.
The doubles team of Alexis Egler and Kelsey Crawford was the only team to win a match and receive a valuable team point.
Single players Kristina Lucas and Blair McCarty both were seeded #6. They both won their first match after a bye, producing two points each for Clarkston.
Nicole Janek won her first two matches. She ran into the states #1 seeded player, Grosse Pointe South’s Angela Chupa, and lost the match (6-3, 7-6).
‘Nicole played her best match of the season and thrilled the crowd with her devastating ground strokes and focused determination,? said Judd.
Alyssa Lucas was seeded #3. After a first round bye, she defeated Novi and West Bloomfield players in straight sets for a total of three team points. She went on to the quarterfinals on Saturday morning to play Grosse Pointe South’s Mary Chupa, seeded #2 in the tournament.
She lost the match, but won the most amount of points for her team.
‘With terrific cooperating help from parents who cheered, fed and transported players, dynamic tournament coaching from Geraldine Parkison and always the determined ‘we can win? attitude of the Clarkston girls players, we had a wonderful, successful tennis season,? said Judd.
‘Although a few teams beat us this year, there are not many of them who have placed in the top eight at states in the last four years in a row as Clarkston has.?
Judd will lose six seniors but the team next yer will continue to be a dominate force on the court, he said.
