A Patriot Day ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at Friendship Park on the corner of Clarkston and Baldwin roads.
Patriot Day is held in memory of those who died during Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington DC and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and to honor the first responders who risked, and gave, their lives to help that day.
Event director Robert Smith said organizers decided to move the ceremony to Friendship Park this year because the park has more space to allow guests to social distance during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Patriot Day ceremony is usually held at the Orion Veterans Memorial.
