The Oxford Varsity boys and girls bowling teams competed this past weekend in the MHSAA Regional Tournament in Grand Blanc, placing 4th and 6th, respectively.
Each team bowled six baker games and three regular games. Only the top three teams could move on to the finals in Muskegon this Saturday.
The girls? hope faded with a 121 baker game and a slow start in the regular matches. Junior Ashlee High had the high game of the day with a 218.
The boys, who finished 4th last year, had high hopes and started with a 204 baker game.
During regular play, they ended up 131 pins behind top ranked Davison. Sophomore Mike Magyar bowled a 233, senior Ben Griggs followed with a 206, and senior Trent Heichel had a 223. The Wildcats came up two pins short of making the cut.
Individual bowlers from Oxford competed on Saturday for a chance to represent the school in Saturday’s state competition in Muskegon.
Junior Brandon Burgess and sophomore Kelly Cartner will have that honor. Cartner is the first Oxford girl to ever qualify for the state competition. Sixty boys and girls will vie for the top 16 spots.
