Megan Hastings played her last softball game as she represented the Clarkston Lady Wolves at the 2012 Michigan Division 1 All-State/All-Star Softball game, July 18.
“It was pretty cool and exciting,” she said. “It was a honor to be picked and to start the game, too.”
Her team lost 12-3 but it was still a good time at the game, held at Michigan State University Secchia Stadium.
“They hit openings where our defensive players weren’t,” she said. “We didn’t hit as good as we hoped against their pitcher.”
She pitched one inning for her last time and was the starting shortstop. She also played her last softball game with Coach Don Peters, her head coach with the Lady Wolves.
“It was pretty cool,” Hastings said. “I didn’t know I would be playing in the All-Star game, so I thought my last game was when we lost in regionals against Romeo. To play again with Coach Peters was amazing because I love him as a coach. Also, to have someone there that I knew helped a lot, too.?
She added it was an honor to represent Clarkston at the game.
“I was really proud of myself. I wish I could have had some of my teammates there,” she said.
Hastings heads to the University of Kentucky in the fall and will major in pharmacy. Her concentration will be on her studies, but she admits she will play on a recreational softball team.
Clarkston softball has left its mark as it taught her lessons over the years.
“Always work hard,” Hastings said. “Even if your coach isn’t watching always be on your best behavior, you never know when he could be watching. Always have a positive attitude, too. “
