Oakwood Community Fair a treat for all

They’ve got food, they’ve got fun, they’ve even got a car show. And best of all’it’s free!
The 4th Annual Oakwood Community Fair will take place Saturday, August 26, at Oakwood Community Church in Ortonville to show the community that ‘Oakwood Cares.? The day of fun will start at 11 a.m. and lasts until 5 p.m.
Enjoy free hot dogs, bratwurst, nachos, salads, ice cream and homemade desserts while your kids bounce on the inflatable moonwalk or race in an obstacle course.
Kids will love getting their face painted, arts and crafts, fishing in the pond and a great show by Fumbellina the Clown.
The fair will also feature entertainment from Men of Grace, from Grace Centers of Hope in Pontiac, the Enlisted Army of Christ Band, and the Power Lifting for Christ strength team from Stand Ministries.
Play or watch a horseshoe tournament sponsored by the Lake Orion Horseshoe Club, which will feature a horseshoe throwing demonstration by a state champion. Professional nursing staff from Troy Beaumont Hospital will be on hand to provide blood pressure checks and more.
Look for tables set up by Oxford/Orion FISH, Lighthouse of Oakland County and God’s Helping Hands to learn about what these great organizations are doing to help others in our community.
The Brandon Township Fire Department will provide interactive demonstrations on fire safety using their Fire Rescue Trailer.
Hogs In Ministry (HIM), a Christian motorcycle group, will make a special appearance at the fair and, along with pastors Bob Service and Don Holiday, will offer a prayer for those who ride.
Let’s not forget the cars! Every fair has to have a classic car show, so it seems only natural for the Oakwood Community Fair to have one.
Beginning at 9 a.m., owners can register their cars to win five different awards, chosen by the pastors themselves. The first 100 cars registered will also receive special dash plaques.
The day of the fair will end with an auction, featuring various gifts and prizes from local businesses, like Curves of Oxford and a hot-air balloon ride from Skye Adventures.
Fran Maddock, secretary at Oakwood Community Church, said the events and food at the fair are free to the community because of the many donations and auction items the church collected from local businesses.
