Senior Andrew Myers wanted his signing to Madonna University to be low key so he sat down in the chair of Clarkston Boys Varsity Basketball and Clarkston High School Athletic Director Dan Fife’s chair with coaches, teammates and family watching the big moment.
“It feels good,” Myers said about continuing his basketball career at Madonna, adding it was nice to have it figured out so he could concentrate on Clarkston Basketball.
“He worked hard to be where he is,” said dad, Barry. “When he was born I threw a ball in his crib. I used to coach him when he was younger and yelled at him a lot.”
Andrew made the choice during the summer and added the head coach, Noel Emenhiser, and former teammate, Nick Owens, helped with the decision.
“We are really excited about Andrew’s commitment,” Emenhiser said. “He represents the values we look for when we recruit – those being character, the desire to learn and play the game, guys understand why they are going to college to get their education dedicated students and he is a great basketball player. He is a great fit for our school and our program. He is an elite guard who is going to take our program to a higher level. He gives us that tough nosed competitor that has been coached at Clarkston.”
Andrew joined the Wolves Varsity Basketball team when he was a freshman. While he learned a lot on the court, he added it is the lessons off the court which will help in life.
“Outside of basketball Coach Fife and Coach (Eric) Chambers have taught me if things aren’t going my way or I’m struggling to keep working and pushing through because good things will come out of it,” he explained.
Currently Andrew is undecided for his course of study but has time before he graduates from high school in June.
His goal for his final season is to help the Wolves grow as a team, teach what Clarkston Basketball is all about and bring home a state title.
