MedCenter Pharmacy melds convenience with caring

When you speak with a pharmacist at MedCenter Pharmacy, you are speaking with an owner. That is why David Sakstrup and Edward Ghannam not only care about what their customers put in their bodies, but also how they are treated from the moment they walk in the door.
‘We have two pharmacists on duty. I don’t know of any pharmacies around here that have two pharmacists on duty, open to close every day,? said David, who for five years ran the RiteAid pharmacy in downtown Clarkston.
Two years have passed since David was offered the chance to open his own pharmacy. His first thought was to enlist the help of his former mentor and close friend, Edward, in the endeavor. The pair, with a combined 34 years of experience between them, are trying to reestablish what a pharmacy should be.
‘With a lot of the big chains, you can be told to wait for half an hour to an hour for your prescription. That’s never going to happen here,? said David.
‘There is a different atmosphere here than at a chain. They want you in and out. They are more interested in speed above all else. It’s not real personable at a chain. The service here is second to none,? added Edward.
David and Edward have ensured that any open health insurance plan in the state will be accepted at MedCenter Pharmacy. They also have unrivaled access any prescription drug and stock a large array of vitamins, herbal and over the counter remedies.
One of the overlying principles of their approach to customer service is ensuring each and every MedCenter customer is informed about what goes into their bodies.
‘Every prescription that leaves here is counseled. Any kind of questions people have, on whether over the counter or herbal medications will interact with their prescription drugs, we answer. If we don’t know we, can find out. Even doctors in the building ask us if they can call if they have questions on drugs,? said Edward
With one of the most sophisticated computer systems in the industry, MedCenter can pull information on patients and ailments from literally thousands of sources in seconds.
One of MedCenter’s major objectives for this year is to become part of the community.
‘All of the employees we have hired are local to the area,? said David. ‘We’re trying to keep everything we do local.?
Their location in the Independence Pointe Medical building has already inserted them into prestigious company.
‘There’s no reason to leave the building now with the incredible variety and level of expertise that we have among the physicians here,? said David.
‘I think people will eventually see us in here, and come right from their doctor to get their prescription filled. Like David said ‘There’s no reason to leave the building,?? added Edward.
