Goodrich-It’s coming up roses for one marching Martian.
Tricia Harris, 17, a GHS senior, will join about 300 high school musicians nationwide as part of the Bands of America Honor Band performing in the 124th Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, Jan.1, 2013 in Pasadena, Calif.
‘I received the application for the parade and thought, ‘Hey, here’s something I’ll only have a chance to do once in my life’so I tried out and made the band,? said Harris, who will play the trombone and has been a band member for eight years.
The 300-piece, national honor parade and field show band will be directed by Bob Buckner, retired director of the Western Carolina University Pride of the Mountains Marching Band. The Rose Parade will cover about five-and-a-half miles through Pasadena.
‘There are a few other high school band members from Michigan going out to California,? she said. ‘But I won’t know anyone and this is my first trip ever out there. I’m a little nervous about how I’ll fit in with the other band members’as a Martian we only play at football games and are not a competitive band. I fly out (to Los Angeles) on Dec. 27 and have a few days of rehearsals before the parade.?
The BOA Honor Band first appeared in the Rose Parade in 2005. The 2013 BOA Honor Band aims to make history by including members representing each of the 50 United States of America.
‘I’m not going to the Rose Bowl football game,? she said. ‘We as a band, however, are going to Disneyland and play a few songs plus a field show, too.?
The Goodrich Music Boosters help defray some of the costs of the trip.
After graduation this spring, Harris said she plans on attending Central Michigan University to study music education and march with the CMU band.
Tricia is the daughter of Joan and Robert Harris.
