Lake Orion High School’s boys and girls track and field teams headed to East Kentwood High School on Saturday to participate in the state championship meet.
The meet signified the end of the spring track and field season for the Dragons but not before all-state performances by senior Cate Leonhard and junior Stephen Brown.
Brown qualified for the finals in both the 100m dash and the 200m dash at the state meet. He finished 7th in the 100m dash to earn all-state honors. He then finished 9th in the 200m dash.
Leonhard earned all-state honors in the pole vault, tying for 7th place.
Senior Nicolas Laurent qualified out of the regional in the 1600m run and finished 12th. Sophomore Luke Peardon finished 18th in the 800m run. Sophomore Caleb Jones finished 12th in the long jump.
On the girls side, five girls competed. Sophie Novak in the 1600m and 3200m runs and finished her high school career as one of the best distance girls to come out of Lake Orion. Sophie finished 13th in the 1600m and 15th in the 3200m runs, on a very hot day, in two of the toughest events to run in the heat.
Alayna Tisch finished 18th in the 100m dash, then ran on the 400m relay with Leonhard, Natalie Keogh and Mecayla Long to run a season personal record, finishing in 13th place. Tisch also finished 18th in the 300m hurdles.
