Lake Orion High School’s boys basketball team hit the road to kick off their season on Dec. 13 against Troy Athens.

With newly appointed head coach Joel Schroeder, the season is expected to have a different pace compared to the previous years.

The boys started out hot, greatly outscoring Athens in the first half, going into the third with a 12-point lead.

Athens bumped up the momentum ready to fight for a season opening win; however, they were unable to stop the Dragons.

Lake Orion walked away with their first win of the season 47-41.

Last week, on Dec. 17, Lake Orion hosted the Adams High School Highlanders in their first home game of the season.

During the home opener it was clear that though in different divisions, the teams were evenly matched with momentum switching back and forth throughout.

However, Lake Orion shooters were unable to land several key drops as Adams sunk basket after basket, eventually overcoming the Dragons, 47-37.

In their final game before the holiday break, Lake Orion took on cross-town rival Oxford High School.

Lake Orion went in hungry for a win over the Wildcats and emerged victorious with a final score of 62-54.

The Dragons are now 2-1 overall with their first league game on the road on Jan. 7 against Oak Park.

The boys will brave the OAA Red again this year going up against top schools such as Clarkston, North Farmington, West Bloomfield, Bloomfield Hills, Ferndale and Oak Park.
