Leaky tanks.
I’ve mentioned before that I’m a news junky.
I read and hear lots of messages from Washington and Lansing.
I sit a little straighter when one of our boys and girls say something that had crossed my mind from time to time.
I’m particularly attentive when the topic is cutting expenses.
Where are they cutting?
Where’s it being directed?
Cutting? Really?
Taxes are never CUT.
A headline in the Detroit Free Press January 19, ‘Gas tank leak fund flows elsewhere.?
In 1988, our Lansing polls set a fee of 7/8 cent on every gallon of gasoline imported or sold in Michigan. It’s called the Michigan Underground ‘Storage Tank Financial Assurance Fund.? It’s purpose was to assist gas station owners and operators with the high costs of removing a leaking underground storage tank and cleaning up related contamination.
Overwhelmed by station owners needing help, the state halted the program in 1995. But it kept collecting the fee.
Over the past 9 years, Michigan has spent more than $850 million from the fund, most of it going to the State Department of Environmental Quality, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
See a pattern or collusion there?
Are environmentalists and mid-America farmers (politicals) collaborating to redirect funds?
The leaking underground storage tank owners now have to push for money to be redirected from other sources, and they will find it in taxpayer ‘funds.?
Forever we’ve heard and read of money collected by our state and federal governments for exact purposes getting re-routed for political purposes doesn’t reach the intended.
And, forever it will be!

A long time ago, maybe, when I attended one of my half dozen 1-room country schools the word maybe came up. The teacher inserted, ‘If there’s a ‘maybe? then there is also a maybe not.?
I think of that when I hear a ‘Lifelock? commercial. The announcer says, ‘If you had Lifelock you may have been notified before someone used your account.?
I have a similar device, and have the same ‘may?.
