Lake Orion High School’s DECA team headed to Detroit from March 8-10 to compete in the State Conference.
DECA, formerly the Distributive Education Clubs of America, is a marketing co-curricular club that allows students to compete in various marketing related fields in the district, state and national levels.
“It (DECA) is important here at LOHS and other schools, because it gives the students a real-life look at future careers they may want to peruse. They can use their critical thinking skills, creativity and marketing knowledge to solve their DECA project,” Business teacher Julia Dalrymple told The Review earlier in December.
Lake Orion High School is in their 23rd year of competing in DECA conferences, according to Michigan DECA.
In this state conference, Lake Orion students competed against 3,600 marketing students from all over the state of Michigan.
Even with stiff competition, LOHS gave outstanding performances and received several awards.
Addison Barnett and Kylie Anderson finished in 1st place in Marketing Communication Team Decision Making.
Also taking home a 1st place finish were Nina Rossman and Audrey Dobbs in Integrated Marketing Plan.
Chloe Halverson, Kendall Baker and Abby Darnall placed 2nd in Leadership and Teamwork.
Cole Harris, Jenna Gaylord and Carson Case won in the Chapter Campaign Event while Lilly Snyder, Allison Heitzenrater and Claire Nelson won the Chapter Community Service Event.
Next stop is the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida the end of April. There, Lake Orion students will join 17,000 other high school marketing students to compete to be recognized as the top one percent of marketing students.
