Dragons win Lake Orion Tournament
The Lake Orion girls varsity softball team continues to rack up wins, defeating the Rochester Adams Highlanders in a doubleheader on Thursday.
“It was a great week for Dragon softball, sweeping two games from league rival Rochester Adams,” said coach Joe Woityra.
In game one, pitcher Rylee Limberger struck out 13 batters enroute to the Dragons’ 11-2 victory.
Anna Gardener connected at every at-bat, going 4-for-4 at the plate. Syd Bell, Addy Dukus and Jada Lopez had two hits apiece. Dukus, Lopez and Grace Luby all hit home runs to add to the Dragon scoring.
Lake Orion dominated the Highlanders in game two, earning a 16-0 shutout.
Pitcher Jada Lopez got the win, striking out five batters.
Anna Gardener had four hits and five RBIs. Bell, Lopez, Ellie Britt, Avery Case, Luby and Alexis Hazen each contributed two hits in the winning effort.
Lake Orion Tournament
The Dragons hosted the Lake Orion tournament on Saturday and “the Dragons’ bats were booming,” Woityra said.
In game one versus Caro, Madi Eckert had four hits for Lake Orion, while Dukus and Lopez each had three hits. Britt had two hits including a home run. Lopez struck out eight batters in the victory.
The Dragons downed Pickney 7-2 in game two of the tournament. Dukus, Anna Gardener, Lopez and Eckert each had two hits. Case and Lopez hit home runs.
In the championship game the Lady Dragons won 16-1 over Utica High School.
Lopez and Sophie Stironek each hit a home run. Case, Taylor Dinda, Britt, Dukus and Bell had two hits apiece.
The team’s record stands at 24-4. The Dragons have home games beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. – J.N.
