Three relay teams qualify for state meet
MILFORD — The Lake Orion boys varsity track and field team finished fourth out of 17 teams at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Region 9 meet on Friday at Milford High School.
Several Lake Orion athletes also qualified three relays to the MHSAA State finals on June 3 at Rockford High School.
“There were wet conditions at Milford high school, but this did not dampen the day for the Dragons,” said coach Andrew McDonald.
In the 3,200-meter Senior Eddie Cromwell put the relay in contention and freshman Max Houvener, sophomore Raymond Lucero and sophomore Blake Peardon completed the job. Their overall time was 8:04.64 minutes, an 11 second improvement in the relay. It was a third-place finish but good enough for an additional qualifying mark in the event, McDonald said.
The 800m relay team of junior Raymond Payne, sophomore Trey Pochmara, senior Dorian Hill and senior Anais Pillot ran a season best 1:30.22 minutes to secure second place and their place in the state finals. The same relay came back in the 400m relay to secure a second-place finish to go to the state finals.
“Their dedication and attention to detail in the rain was impressive, way to go!” McDonald said.
Senior Nick Eaton took eighth place in the shot put, throwing 43-feet, 7.75-inches. and was also seventh in the discus at 134-feet, 1-inch. Sophomore Phinehas House pole vaulted 12-feet, 3-inches as did junior Ian McCullum, a season best, to tie for third place.
In the 100m dash, senior Anais Pillot took fourth place in 11.33 seconds and seventh place went to sophomore Trey Pochmara 11.41 seconds.
Sophomore Blake Peardon took fourth place in the 1,600m run, running 4:35 minutes, and Eddie Cromwell took eighth place in 4:39 minutes.
The 300m hurdles saw junior Andrew Drakos run 40.54 seconds to secure fourth place, and junior Tanner Stewart ran 44.06 seconds to take eighth place.
In the 800m race, sophomore Raymond Lucero ran a season best 2:01.34 minutes to take eighth place. In the 200m dash, senior Anais Pillot ran 23.24 seconds to take fourth place.
In the 1,600m relay, Toby Archer, Ben Redmon, Raymond Lucero and Anais Pillot ran 3:41.53 minutes to secure eighth place.
The varsity team will compete at Oakland County Meet on Friday at Oxford High School. — J.N.
