Ladycats add another win to record

Chalk up another win for the Ladycats.
Oxford’s varsity girls basketball team beat Lapeer West 38-30 Tuesday night.
Leading the way were junior Captain Joelle Harms with 9 points, Allie Laidlaw with 7 points and Emily Brooks with 6 points.
‘We were very sluggish offensively in the first half, but we made some adjustments in the third and fourth quarters to create space for our players,? said Coach Al Poynter. ‘We also were able to turn some of our defensive effort into points.?
On Friday night, the girls added a 53-50 win over Clio to their record.
Harms had 17 points, four assists and two steals, junior Le’Essa Collier had 10 points and three assists, while junior Jessica Raisch had six points and rebounds for the night.
‘We played an excellent game offensively, but defensively, we had trouble,? Poynter said. ‘Clio is a much-improved team and their guards did a good job of breaking down our defense off the dribble.?
The coach said the team has to get back to the strong defense they had after Christmas if they’re going to stay at the top of the league and beat Fenton.
The Ladycats are now 9-4 overall and 8-2 in the FML. They travel to Swartz Creek on Friday at 7 p.m. and take on Holly at home Jan. 28.
