Lady Cagers split last week in league play.
They started by taking West Bloomfield down,45-32, Dec. 15. The girls pulled out all the stops as the held the Lady Lakers to nine points in the first half, while Clarkston scored 30.
‘It was our best offensive output in a half,? said Tim Wasilk, head coach of the girls varsity basketball team. ‘We did a lot of nice things on the offensive end and defensive end against West Bloomfield so it was a good team win for us.?
Sophomore Megan Hastings led the girls, scoring 16 points for the team, and freshman Delaney Kenny scored 14. Sophomore Anna Manilla scored four points and had 11 rebounds.
‘Megan has been doing a nice job scoring for us this season,? said Wasilk. ‘She shot the ball extremely well.?
Hastings continued to lead the team into the end of the week, scoring 14 points against Troy on Friday, but Clarkston ended the game with a loss, 37-34.
‘Troy did a nice job tonight adjusting their defenses and forced us to make some tough shots,? said Wasilk. ‘Our youth showed and tried to adapt. It was a good learning experience.?
Troy led into the second half, 26-20, but Clarkston was able to slow them and get control of the ball. Clarkston finished the half with 14 points. Troy could only to get 11 points past the Lady Wolves defense.
‘We played much better but we didn’t have the shots tonight as well,? said Wasilk. ‘We missed a lot of shots inside as well as from the 3-point line.?
Natalie Drumb scored eight points and Kenny, six. The girls went into holiday break with their overall record, 2-3.
‘I am proud of where we are at this point of the season,? said Wasilk. ‘We made big strides and we are going to have a good Christmas break and keep getting better.?
The girls start the new year against Troy-Athens on Jan. 4.
‘Hopefully we can continue getting healthy and get some of our players back from the injured list and continue on with success in the second half of the season.?
