ORION TWP. — Lake Orion High School’s varsity girls basketball team is making a comeback in the OAA Red in its second round through the division.
After finishing the first trip through the division, the Lake Orion ladies found themselves sitting at the bottom with a 0-6 record.
Despite being on a six-game losing slide mid-season, head coach Bob Brydges was still confident in his team and their ability to perform in the highest division in the OAA.
Their time to prove it came last week where they took on two OAA Red contenders who had defeated Lake Orion earlier in the season: the Clarkston Wolves and the Rochester Falcons.
The Dragons hosted the Wolves last Tuesday, coming out with a nail-biter victory, 49-48.
Junior captain Izzy Wotlinski led the Dragons with 18 points followed by senior Ellie Britt with 11.
Junior Nevaeh Wood has six points and eight rebounds, senior captain Ryann Pawlaczyk had five points and six rebounds, junior Charlotte Peplowski had four points and three steals. Sophomore Riley House contributed two points and sophomore Dani Heck grabbed four rebounds in the winning effort.
The ladies hit the road on Friday, heading to Rochester High School where they defeated the Falcons in another close match-up, 34-31.
Wotlinski led the Dragons again with 15 points and six rebounds. Pawlaczyk scored 11 points and Wood, Peploski and Britt all added two points.
The two wins put Lake Orion at 2-6 in the OAA Red and 10-7 overall.
The ladies are on the road again this week, first traveling to Walled Lake Northern on Wednesday and then heading north to take on the Oxford Wildcats on Friday with a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
