ORION TWP. — Lake Orion High School’s varsity girls lacrosse team kicked off their season at home with a dominating performance against Notre Dame Prep, defeating the Fighting Irish 20-4.
The Dragons started the game strong, with five goals in the first five minutes of play and did not let up the rest of the game.
By halftime, the Dragons had scored 14 goals to Notre Dame Prep’s two.
Despite the rain, a running clock kept the game going and Lake Orion secured their first win of the season.
Leading scorers for the Dragons were seniors Morgan Vasquez and Quinn McElroy with four goals apiece.
Senior Reagan Haas and sophomore Amelia Guccione each had three goals and junior Courtney Reisler and sophomore Abigail Lee added two each.
Senior goalie Sienna Coventry had four saves.
The Dragons head into the new season off of an impressive 2022 season where the team went 10-5-0 overall.
Over the past several years, the program has also had a number of players sign national letters of intent to continue to play lacrosse in college. McElroy is currently the only player who has committed to a team, singing to Grand Valley State University in November.
The Dragons are set to take on Birmingham Seaholm at Seaholm High School on Wednesday.
Lake Orion is in the OAA White division and will face off against Notre Dame Prep, Troy Athens, Bloomfield Hills, Clarkston, Royal Oak, Troy High School, Farmington, Stoney Creek, Rochester High School and North Farmington in OAA play.
