The Wolves first half was nearing a close and the boys added some cushion to their already leading score.
Junior Travis Craft struck first with 1:15 to go and one minute later junior Jordan Kincaid struck, both points put the boys up to 7-0 in their season opener against Saline.
The momentum carried into the second half of the Wolves home game and they ended with a win on March 30, 15-1.
“It was a good start,” said Clarkston Boys Varsity Lacrosse Coach Brian Kaminskas. “They are definitely coming out ready to play. They seem to be approaching the season just right.”
Craft led the team posting four goals and two assists.
“It was wonderful,” said Kaminskas. “We had him in the driver’s seat of the offense. When he is able to do what he did Wednesday night we know we are going to have a good night on offense.”
Also, aiding offense were Kincaid and Alexander Dziewit, both with three goals. Kevin O’Grady and Kevin Horton had two goals each and Nathan Gill scored one. O’Grady had three assists during the game.
Goalie Matt Goebel had six saves.
“It is just what you want from your goalie on your first night,” added Kaminiskas. “He had a good night. He did a good job directing clears which is what we ask him to do as well.”
Helping Goebel with the good night was the Wolves’ defense who made it hard for Saline to keep control of the ball.
“Defense was solid,” added Kaminskas. “Offense did a great job of possessing the ball and taking the shots when we had them.”
The boys carried their win into Friday when they hosted Plymouth, winning 13-3.
O’Grady led the Wolfpack, scoring six shots on the boys 51 attempts on the net.
“It was really something nice,” said Kaminskas. “He was in the zone where we knew when he was shooting he was going to score. He was on the money.”
Kincaid had three goals and Horton had four assists. Goebel had 12 saves during the game.
With two wins already in for the season Kaminskas said the boys are looking good even though they still have some work to do.
“We are happy with the performances we have seen,” he added. “We have definitely raised the level of our ability to compete compared to last year. Everybody is stepping at the same time. We are all in sync and looking good.”
Key returners include Goebel, Matt Burnett, Alex Dziewit, Joe Sharkey and Nathan Gill.
“Joe and Nathan are emerging as players,” said Kaminskas. “Alex is a strong midfielder for us.”
The boys main goal is to win states.
“Our second goal is continue to build on our foundation so we can build a tradition of excellence,” said Kaminskas.
The boys return from spring break to play at Walled Lake Northern on April 12.
“We have been out and scouted them,” Kaminskas said. “I think we are going to have a pretty good night as long. As we keep doing what we are doing and improving over break we are going to do just fine.”
The boys continue against Troy-Athens on April 14.
“We are looking forward to that game,” Kaminskas said. “Again with the way we are playing we think we have a nice opportunity to step in and beat them.”
