Icers improve to 6-0

Tack up two more notches in the win column for the varsity hockey club.
The Wildcats defeated Fraser 7-5 on Wednesday, Dec. 14 before beating L’anse Creuse North 6-5 on Saturday, Dec. 17.
Varsity head coach Dave Hague said he was thrilled to get the victory over Fraser despite his team having an off night.
‘We didn’t play well at all, but we were able to fight and find a way to win, so that is good,? Hague said.
‘We were just off,? he continued. ‘I think you have off nights like that, and fortunately we were able to find a way to win the game. We weren’t competing at the level we expect everyday, we weren’t jumping on loose pucks like we usually do…we were off, but again, I was proud we were able to find a way to win.?
Junior Connor Novak led the Wildcats with four points (one goal, three assists) against Fraser.
Trailing 4-2 midway through the second period against LCN, it looked like the Wildcats would lose their first contest of the year. However, Oxford found it’s stride and outscored LCN 4-1 the rest of the game.
‘Saturday was a good bounce back game for us, for sure,? Hague said. ‘We were a little sluggish early on, but the second half of the game I was real proud of the boys. They played real well.?
Seniors Nick Hocker and Nolan Chapman each had five points in the win against LCN.
With the victories, the Wildcats improve to 6-0 on the season. They take on Lake Orion at the Detroit Skating Club on Thursday, Dec. 22. at 7 p.m.
