Historic church to hold groundbreaking ceremony for new education building

The Lake Orion United Methodist Church, located at 140 E. Flint Street, will be getting a new look this fall as they begin work on a New Education Building.
The church, which is currently around 20,000 square feet, will add a roughly 7,000 square feet with the new building. The new structure will be attached to the back of the church where a former parsonage was located.
LOUMC will be breaking ground on the new Education Building on Sept.7. As many are aware, this new building will allow the church to continue its current ministries with much less crowding and also allow them to expand their ministries to more children and youth in our community.
The official groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on the 7th. Both the 9:15 a.m. and the 11 a.m. service will be shortened in order to accommodate this special celebration.
The 9:15 service will be shortened to 45 minutes. At 10 a.m. everyone will proceed out the front doors of the church towards Flint Street and continue marching around the side of the church to the site of the former parsonage.
As they gather, everyone will make a circle around the site, which will be marked with spray paint on the ground.
Once everyone is settled, they will enjoy music from the praise bands as well as messages from the pastors, Bruce Denton and Marge Munger and others in the congregation. They are asking everyone, including the children, to bring small sand shovels or small gardening trowels to help break ground.
There will be sign ‘up sheets for food in the fellowship hall and on the bulletin tear offs. Everyone is invited back to Fellowship Hall after the ceremony to enjoy refreshments and fellowship. The 11 a.m. contemporary worship service will begin at 11:15 to allow everyone to be a part of this momentous occasion.
The rain date will be Sept. 14, same times.
