The Flushing Tournament proved to be another stern test for the Goodrich volleyball team Saturday, Jan. 6.
The Martians compiled an overall tournament record of 1-3-1, dropping their season record to 1-6-2. Goodrich went 0-4 in pool play, losing to Owosso 18-25, 16-25 and Lapeer East 19-25, 17-25.
Coach Richard Sirna said the team started slow against Owosso, but improved against Lapeer East.
Goodrich, which was seeded ninth in power pool play, went 3-1 in that department, defeating Waterford Mott 25-20, 25-9 and splitting with Woodhaven 25-21, 17-25. However, the Martians were eliminated from the tournament after losing a rematch against Woodhaven 26-24, 25-27, 11-25.
‘We must stop giving points away by committing unforced errors,? Sirna said. ‘As the day went along, we played tougher. Since this is only our second tournament of the season, we will make constant improvements as the season continues.?
