The Clarkston golf team was able to measure themselves against the best in Oakland County on April 19, and then had to face the County’s best golfer again the next day as they took on Lahser on April 20.
Clarkston emerged from the Oakland County tournament in sixth place with a combined score of 403. Rochester High won the county title with a combined score of 365. Junior Jackie Schram was the Wolves low score at 85, tying her for fifth overall, five strokes behind tournament leader Megan Carter of Lahser.
‘From looking at (Jackie’s) scorecard, she could have easily shot in the range of 75-80. It’s just a matter of her not having one or two holes that kill her,? said Clarkston Coach Larry Sherrill.
Also performing well for Clarkston at the County Tournament were freshman Minjoo Lee and senior Lyndsey Kitson who both entered the clubhouse with a score of 105.
Against Lahser the next day a myriad of problems doomed the Wolves. Starting with the presence of County champ Carter and continuing on to cold and windy conditions, which made one of the toughest courses the team will see this year in Forest Lake Country Club, Clarkston could not find a way to get a leg up on the Knights.
?(Forest Lake) is three or four strokes tougher than any other course we have played,? said Sherrill.
The low score for the Wolves on the day was Schram’s 45, followed my Lee’s 50.
The elements conspired to keep the golf team off the course for much of the rest of the week and at press time had cancelled the first of two league meets on April 26.
‘In a way it’s a good thing we are not playing (the league meet). There’s some things we can work on,? said Sherrill.
The League meet will either be made up at the Eccentric Tournament on May 5 or rolled into the second league meet on May 17.
