The Oxford Varsity track teams did double duty last weekafter competing in the Oakland County Meet on Friday and the Flint Metro League Meet on Wednesday.
‘A lot of athletes had to fight some tired legs to perform their best,? said Coach Andrew McDonald.
At the FML meet, the girls took first place ? the first time since 2002.The boys, however, faced tough competition and took fourth place.
Girls highlights include a first place win by the 800-meter relay team of senior captain Jacqui Sylva, sophomore Kara Charles, junior Hannah George and sophomore Keeona Ives (1:48.32); the second place finish by the 400-meter relay team of sophomores Taylor Carpenter and Taylor Medel, junior Katherine Bosetti and Sylva (53.15); and senior captain Shaunte Waller’s first place in shot put.
Boys highlights include a first place win by the 800-meter relay team of seniors Zach Tilley, David Hurrish, Andrew Klimbal and James Nelson (1:32.61)and the second place finish by the 1600-meter relay team of junior Spencer Britt, senior Ben Cole, Nelson and Klimbal (3:31.69).
The pole vaulters finished their season very strong when sophomore Kevin Jickling took first place at 12 feet with Ives and Bosetti taking first and second, respectively, at 8 ft. 6 inches.
At the Oakland County Meet at Farming High School, the boys placed 15th out of the 50 teams and the girls tied for 5th place against Southfield Lathrup.
Again, Jickling created a new personal best in the pole vault hitting 12 ft., 6 inches, Klimbal took fifth in the 400-meter dash (51.32) and Nelson took fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.88). For the girls, Bosetti created a new school record with her seventh place finish in the pole vault (9 ft., 3 inches) and sophomore Shannon Seeley took fourth and created a new personal best in the 800-meter run (2:22.61).
The girls ended their regular season 7-1 and the boys were 4-4.
