The Lake Orion girls varsity track team took second place out of 11 teams at the Ortonville Brandon Tri-County Invite on April 12, losing only to the reigning state champs from Oak Park.
The girls had three individual champions on the day: Sophie Novak placed first in the 800m and 1,600m runs and Sarah Griffin was first in the pole vault.
The girls place second in five events: Melissa Symons in the 100m and 300m hurdles; Madison Eaton in the 100m dash; the 4x100m relay team of Makayla Allen, Eaton, Shantel Stanley and Symons; and the 4x400m relay team of Eaton, Josie Arnold, Novak and Symons, said Assistant Coach Adam Russell.
Finishing in third place were Eaton in the 100m hurdles, Cassie Moreau in the shot put and Heather DeSamper in the pole vault. The 4x 800m relay of Arnold, Marissa O’Leary, Olivia Ames and Ava Keogh also finished third.
Other major contributors placing 4th were Arnold in the 800m run and Abbey Locke in the 1,600m run. Meet points were scored through the top eight places.
LO vs Adams
Lake Orion previously defeated Rochester Adams 77-51 on April 10 to remain undefeated, 2-0, in the OAA Red Division.
Leading this effort were seniors Madison Eaton, who won the 100m and 200m dashes, and Melissa Symons, who won the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles.
Other key contributors included sophomore Sophie Novak winning the 800 and 1,600m runs, freshman Leah O’Leary winning the 3,200m run and senior Cassie Moreau winning the shot put and discus.
The team will compete in the 57th annual Elmer Ball Invitational at Oxford High School on Saturday. Field events begin at 10 a.m. and track events begin at 10:30 a.m.
