Congratulations to Brice Galbraith of Lakeville for earning his Eagle Scout status!
Galbraith, who is 16 and a sophomore at Oxford High School, is a member of Troop 366 and earned his new rank just two weeks ago.
Galbraith was eight when he joined the Cub Scouts and worked his way up through being a Tender Foot, Second Class, First Class, Star and Life status. To get his Eagle Scout status, Galbraith had to do an Eagle project.
Taking the advice of Dan Alberty, treasurer for Addison Township, Galbraith’s project entailed taking inventory of everything in the Addison Township offices. From computers to desks to microphones, Galbraith, with the help of a few troop members, counted every single item in the building and compiled a database to help the township keep track of their belongings. Galbraith also had to draw up a floor plan for the complex using a CAD program.
When Galbraith was finished with his project, he had to get a final approval from the township stating that he did what he was supposed to do, then on to the Boy Scout Board of Review and finally to the National Council of Boy Scouts.
Although Galbraith won’t receive his official Eagle Scout badge until a presentation in August, the accomplishment is giving him a little more responsibility when it comes to his troop.
‘It means that I can be a leader now,? he said. ‘I can help lead my troop.?
Galbraith’s parents, Gary and Eileen, said they’re both extremely proud of him–especially because of his busy schedule. His dad said he’s kept up his grades, he’s active on the cross country team and he’s received his first degree black belt. He also works part-time at the Addison Township Public Library.
‘He’s also really patient with the (younger) boys in the troop,? his mother said. ‘He’s a good kid.?
His dad also said that if he could go back he would make sure his other sons went through the Boy Scout program because it’s been so beneficial to Galbraith.
Galbraith is the eighth Eagle Scout in the history of Troop 366. He will get his Eagle Scout badge on August 21 and will be presented with a letter of accomplishment from the state Governor and the President.
