The Wolves spent their time off from school practicing their moves and working on their skills for the season.
Brian Kaminskas, head coach for the Clarkston Boys Varsity Lacrosse team, said they look good as they come back from spring break.
‘We did our annual team trip down to Florida,? he added. ‘We had a good week of practice. We were able to get a lot done and make up for some lost time.?
Like many other teams across Michigan, the Wolves have split their practice time between inside and outside because of the weather.
The boys come back from break to take on Notre Dame Prep in their home opener on Thursday.
‘It is a big game for us,? said Kaminskas. ‘It was one of our few losses last year. The guys circled this one on the calendar. They are focused on it and ready to roll.?
One of the strengths the boys have going into the game is speed, he noted.
‘We have some pretty fast feet,? Kaminskas said. ‘Transition will be a key for us for offense. We have a lot of veterans back on defense. It is the kind of defense our guys are used to playing.?
The Wolves are currently 1-0 for the new season after beating Utica Eisenhower, 17-7, on March 23. Seven players contributed to points on the scoreboard in the game. Connor Ward led with six goals and five assists. Reid Kaminski and Andrew Williamson scored three goals each. Kyle O’Grady scored two goals as Connor Dziewit, Jordan Moore and Keaton Mitchell had one goal a piece.
‘It’s nice to have the first game out of the way,? said Kaminskas. ‘The jitters are out of the way. On the other hand, by the time we play Notre Dame it is three weeks old.?
Notre Dame Prep have three games under their belt as they go into the game with a 2-1 record. Their most recent game was a 15-3 win over Rochester Adams after a loss to De La Salle.
The Wolves know to look out for three talented midfielders and their leading attackman, Kyle Beauregard.
‘He is pretty good,? Kaminskas added. ‘He had already committed to University of Detroit – Mercy.?
The Wolves play at Clarkston High School stadium with JV at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
‘As long as they stick to the game plan they will have a relatively good night,? said Kaminskas. ‘If they slow the ball down too much on offense or get a little jumpy on defense it could make for a long night.?
