The boys golf team accomplished a lot of their goals this season.
Unfortunately, going to states was one they will have to try for again next year.
They rounded off the top six at their regional final at Westwynd Golf Club in Rochester last Thursday.
‘It was a good season. We accomplished a lot of goals,? said Clarkston coach Mark Wiegand. ‘Only one team accomplished all of their goals and that wasn’t us.?
Waterford Kettering (312), Traverse City Central (317), and Grand Blanc (323) placed in the top three and will go on to states this week at Grand Valley State University. Clarkston (332) came behind Davison (329) and Rochester Adams (331) to finish sixth.
‘I am disappointed this group of kids didn’t get to go to states. Not only me, but they were disappointed as well,? said Clarkston coach Mark Wiegand.
Matt Fuller has been the only player that has gone to states in his four years on the varsity team. He competed in states three seasons ago.
‘It was a tough course, but it was we didn’t play well. Jordan Roth shot the best with us.?
Roth shot a par of 80 on the course.
The day at Westwynd ended the first spring season for boys golf.
‘It was interesting to see some of the teams advancing to states that didn’t do well in the beginning,? said Wiegand. ‘The weather finally got nice. The change went smoothly as expected. I’m proud of their accomplishments and hope they are, too. We’re look forward to banquets and all the fun stuff and start rebuilding for next year.?
Tommy Ronk will be the only golfer returning for the next season. The rest of the team graduated on Wednesday.
