For the next two Sundays a big, yellow Clarkston school bus will be parked at the Kroger on Sashabaw Road, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
It is the ninth annual Stuff-a-Bus sponsored by the Clarkston Community Schools Transportation Department.
“The only difference this year is it is two Sundays, Dec. 2 and Dec. 9,” said Tammy Layton, bus driver. “Everyone is used to one weekend with us.”
Donations being accepted include non-perishable food items, personal care items, gift cards, monetary donations, clothing, books, and new, unused toys. The donations will be going to Lighthouse North, on Sashabaw Road to help local families.
The new toys and new clothing can be for any age from infant to teenagers. Layton emphasized the items need to be in brand new condition.
“This is the way qualifying families go shopping for their families,” she said. “We want new items so they can have a Christmas like families that can afford it.”
She added great gifts for teenagers are gift cards for any store for any domination. Plus, they can be purchased inside of Kroger.
“We have done great every year especially with the economy the past few years,” Layton said. “The support from the community has been wonderful. It’s nice to know we have people who look forward to us doing this now. It’s not just the bus drivers looking forward to doing this. It’s the community looking forward to us to do this.”
Layton said for those unable to stop by they can stop by Lighthouse, 6330 Sashabaw Road. They can also drop off donations at the Clarkston Community Schools bus garage, 6590 Middle Lake Road, Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. – 5 p.m.
“I am very appreciative of Kroger, particularly the manager, Blaine Tweed,” Layton said. He worked very diligently to get the two days we got. We are appreciative to Kroger, the community and everyone who makes this possible.”
Stop by this Sunday or next Sunday, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. at Kroger, 5590 Sashabaw Road.
