Oxford Area Community Schools Board of Education trustee Ron Etherton has announced he will be resigning from his seat on the board and from his role as president effective June 25.
‘For me it’s just time,? said Etherton. ‘I feel it’s time to move on and let someone else step in and have the opportunity to make a difference in this district.?
Etherton said his primary reasons for resigning include wanting to spend more time with his family and giving his personal interests more attention – especially golfing and working out in the gym. When looking over his outside commitments, he found that being a member of the school board was the only responsibility he had remaining.
‘It’s been a fabulous eye opening experience,? said Etherton. ‘It’s a real learning opportunity and I’ve really enjoyed every moment of it.?
This June will mark the end of Etherton’s seventh year on the board. He feels he worked hard to be an overall advocate for the school district; and is very proud to have assisted in making the district better and better over the years.
‘For me it’s just time to step back and fade away,? said Etherton.
Etherton’s last day as a board member is after the June 24 regular meeting and right before the July organizational meeting where new officers will be elected. As president, Etherton believed this was the best timing.
‘I figured it would give time for the remaining board members to think about who they want in this position,? he explained.
Also, since June 25 is after the district’s general election, the board of education will need to appoint someone to the seat for the remaining year of the term.
‘I really encourage everyone to run for something like this,? said Etherton. ‘This has been an amazing seven years and I think anyone can benefit from it.?
