I am writing to recommend the election of Susan Flaherty to the board of education for Lake Orion Community Schools.
Susan is one of the most dedicated, hard-working, people I’ve ever known.
We met on-campus at Michigan State University in the fall of 1990 when I was fortunate enough to select her as my little sister in our sorority. We immediately connected on a personal level and our friendship has grown over 30 years.
I write this recommendation from the perspective of being a career teacher with more than 25 years of experience in a neighboring district. I know Susan will be outstanding in representing the best interests of parents, students, teachers, and administrators and will serve the diverse values and needs of the Lake Orion community.
She will assure teachers have the tools and resources to be successful. She will stand up and do the right thing even if she’s in the minority.
A school board works with, and for, their community with the goal of improving the district’s local schools.
The school board’s primary role is deciding how to spend the district’s funds and set governing policies. These roles and responsibilities align well with Susan’s 25-year professional business career in purchasing, human resources, facilities and strategy, including allocating and managing budgets, defining and governing policies and developing a strategic vision.
Susan has my highest personal and professional recommendation for this position, and I urge voters to take full advantage of her leadership skills, integrity, and business experience by electing Susan Flaherty to the board of education of Lake Orion Community Schools.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Miechelle Fowler Landrum
Algonac High School Science Teacher
