After a second districts loss in two years to Avondale, Coach Phil Price will take time in the off season to revaluate the team.
‘The last couple years, we haven’t played good baseball. We stopped playing Clarkston baseball,? said Price.
‘We don’t play to win. We play to lose. We have to do a lot of revaluating to do in the off season, what’s happening now is not getting it done.?
The season began with winning tournaments and lost momentum little by little until they lost to Avondale, 6-5.
‘We don’t pitch from behind the count,? said Price.
‘We pitch from ahead and that has been our demon all year, we beat ourselves. It’s about getting the other team to beat you, instead of beating yourself.?
Avondale scored their first run in the first inning.
The Wolves scored a total of five runs at the top of the second inning. Alex Navarre, Nick Shamoun, Tyler Scarlett, and Rob Sims brought in four runs.
Avondale hit a home run in the fifth inning that brought in two runs. Two innings later they score three more runs to put themselves into the lead by one point.
The Wolves had one more chance at the top of the eighth inning, but were unable to tie the game.
‘You have to tip your hat to Avondale,? said Price. ‘Their kids battled and showed a lot of heart and went after things. They are a good team. We scored five runs in one inning and we didn’t score the rest of the game. We had opportunities. We had guys on bases. We didn’t get it done.?
Scarlett hit a triple, a double and had one RBI. Joel Lange hit a double and had one RBI.
Alex Navarre, Shamoun and Sims had one RBI each.
Clarkston faced Avondale in a double header earlier this month. They won the first game 13-3 and then lost the second game.
The team faced Waterford Mott first on Saturday. The boys started the first inning with five runs.
Joe Preston and Luke Prudhomme had one RBI and Chris Mocerino had two RBIs in the first inning.
They continued the trend and beat Waterford Mott in six innings, 11-1.
The boys ended the season 16-15.
