The location was different but the outcome was the same as Kickers hosted cross town rivals Lake Orion last Thursday night.
Clarkston shut out the Dragons for a second time this season after scoring two goals.
Senior defender Alec Pappas noticed a difference between the two games.
‘There was a little extra effort,? said Pappas. ‘This time they brought it a little bit harder. We stepped up as a team and capitalized on our chances. It was completely a team effort, everybody stepped up.?
The Dragons started the game with control of the ball and tried to get shots past goalie Scott Messer.
Brandon Verlinden gained control of the ball with ten minutes left in the first half.
He took a shot on the goal. It slipped out of reach for goalie Aram Keteyian and Zech Moore ran forward to finish the play by kicking the ball into net.
The Dragons fought to score and tie the game.
The scoreboard counted down the last five minutes of the game and the refs called a penalty against Clarkston.
Reed Losee set up his free kick. He took his shot towards the goal and Messer reached up to save it.
Kevin Pinkos scored a few minutes later and put Lake Orion farther behind.
‘Anytime you can get an extra goal, a cushion is really welcomed,? said Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Adam Bican. ‘It saves me hair and saves time on my life. I think they (Lake Orion) are very dangerous. Both times we played them, they had opportunities we did. We capitalized on them. Some of those games can go either way.?
Messer made eight saves in his fifth shut out so far this season.
‘He makes some amazing saves and makes them look routine,? said Bican. ‘Anytime you have a long throw in like they do, it can get very dangerous. He handled it very well and sorted through his defense very well.?
The Wolves host Stoney Creek on Thursday night. JV begins at 5:30, varsity follows.
They travel to Utica Stevenson on Friday. Varsity begins at 4 p.m., JV follows.
The boys continue to lead the OAA Red, 7-0. Their current overall record is 9-2-1.
