It was a disappointing end to the varsity girls basketball season as they lost 44-28 in the district semi-finals to Lake Orion on Thursday, March 1.
Trailing 18-13 at halftime, Lake Orion got hot to start the third quarter and never looked back, outscoring the Wildcats 21-6 in the quarter. Varsity head coach Steve Emert said the girls got out of sync and could never recover.
‘We just couldn’t get over the initial shock,? Emert said. ‘We called a couple timeouts, but we couldn’t get it back together. We just got out of sync.?
Junior Shelby Davis led the Wildcats with seven points.
‘We were in a situation where we know we could have played better, we didn’t play what we are capable of, but we can’t let that last game take away from all the good things we did all year long,? Emert said.
The girls finished this season with a 10-11 record overall; they were third in the Oakland Activities Association’s White division with an 8-6 record.
Emert said the girls are already looking forward to getting in the gym to get started for next season.
‘They came a long way, and I look forward to the same growth and development next year,? he said.
