After two upsetting defeats against Clarkston (final score 3-1) and Stoney Creek (final score 3-2), the Dragons were 4-2 overall going into their final league (OAA Red) game of the season.
The ladies hosted the then 3-3 overall Rochester Adams High School Highlanders.
A Highlander win would even out both teams’ overall league standing and the teams would be tied for third behind no. 1 Clarkston and no. 2 Stoney Creek.
Lake Orion was on fire during the first two sets, taking down Adams 25-16 and 25-17, respectively.
The Dragons were unable to maintain their momentum in the third set, falling to the Highlanders 25-21.
During the fourth set, the ladies kept pace with Adams, going back and forth and remaining within a few points at all times. With the Highlanders at 24 and the Dragons at 23, the ladies stepped it into high gear.
The following plays held a majority of the night’s tension with Lake Orion head coach Tony Scavarda challenging a call and being given a yellow card.
After a few trick plays on the Dragon end, Lake Orion was able to bounce back from their loss in the third set with a 29-27 victory in the fourth.
The win bumps Lake Orion’s league standing to 5-3, third in the OAA Red division.
Volleyball district play begins on Nov. 4 with the Dragons facing a TBD opponent in the Lake Orion Field House at 7 p.m.
