Dragon pole vaulters finish 1-2 at Halloween Vault

Dragon pole vaulters Bella Monterosso and Carlie Knebl, both juniors at Lake Orion High School, took home the first and second place medals at the third annual Halloween Vault held Oct. 31 in Vermontville, MI.

Monterosso (Wonder Woman) and Knebl (Bat Girl), competed against 14 other vaulters.

Bella cleared 9-feet 9-inches to place first at the holiday fun event, held inside the Vault Barn, said Adam Russell, LOHS Varsity track & field assistant coach.

“Because of Covid, there has been minimal opportunities available for any track competitions. Only private venues like the Vault Barn, have been willing to host anything. So far, public schools and colleges have not been willing to commit to anything,” Russell said.

“Usually Eastern Michigan University, Central Michigan University, Saginaw Valley State University, MCC, Aquinas, Hillsdale and Grand Valley State University host 95 percent of the indoor track season (MITS, Michigan Indoor Track Series). That schedule is due to be out by Thanksgiving and usually starts mid December.

“Hopefully the virus plateaus and these track athletes that missed a spring and summer 2020 season, are allowed to compete Winter Indoor 2020-2021,” Russell said.
