Lake Orion High School’s varsity baseball team hosted Stoney Creek on April 22 for the first game of their scheduled doubleheader. This is also Lake Orion’s second OAA Red league game of the season.
The Dragons emerged from the low scoring battle victorious with a 5-1 win.
Lake Orion credited pitcher Josh Slayton for the victory after he gave up just one unearned run on four hits over seven innings and striking out nine.
The Cougars scored their first run early on which, went unanswered until the third inning where the Dragons scored three of their own. Matt Williams and Slayton both drove in runs.
In the sixth inning, Ryan McClellan hit a two-run home run and extended the Dragon lead by four.
Mitch Howell and McClellan each had multiple hits for Lake Orion.
This win improves Lake Orion’s record to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the OAA Red. Game two of the doubleheader was set for April 23 after The Lake Orion Review went to press. — M.K.
