DA kids make 18 blankets for HAVEN

Students at Daniel Axford Elementary spent last Monday creating fleece blankets for children at HAVEN (Help Against Violent Encounters Now) of Oakland County.
HAVEN’s mission is to eliminate domestic violence and sexual assault across Oakland County and surrounding communities through treatment and prevention services.
Eighteen blankets, which are called no-sew blankets, with kid-friendly designs were put together by the little hands for little hands.
The blankets are made by taping two pieces of fleece material together and then tying the fringes around the material together, so it’s very easy for children to make.
The blankets will be delivered sometime in January. DA principal Lydia Engell said the school took on the task as part of their monthly mission of ‘being kind.?
Throughout the month of December, students and teachers are on their guard to ‘catch? other students being kind. ‘We usually like to think about doing something in terms of the community as well,? Engell said.
