When it comes to art, Ashley Moll is passionate.
That characteristic recently earned Moll the Career Technical Education Student of the Year Award, given to the student who shows exemplary work and dedication to their studies at Genesee Area Skill Center. Moll is enrolled in the visual communication program, which focuses on illustration and computer art.
‘I work hard at skill center because I enjoy what I do. I think that is what made me stand out from my peers,? said Moll.
A natural artist, Moll has always been interested in art, particularly drawing. ‘I have been drawing for as long as I can remember? anything and everything.? Moll said.
Goodrich High School Principal David St. Aubin was the first person to tell Moll she had won.
‘When I was first told I had won, the principal said I had shown good academic achievement and had really improved since starting the course,? said Moll. ‘I had no idea what it was until he [St. Aubin] told me I had won. There was no application process or anything. I was very surprised and proud of myself for the work I had done that got me this award.?
Moll will be attending the College for Creative Studies in Detroit in the fall. She will major in entertainment arts, which focuses on animation and video game design, as well as traditional art. ‘I really want to work with movies and the animation involved with them. I hope to one day work with Pixar or DreamWorks Studios,? said Moll.
